Discussion on RP2350 Series Board Design Challenges

Any of you guys tried designing boards with the RP2350 series? On the one hand, I’m pretty excited that The 2354 variation will have onboard Flash memory. Also Also, I believe the QFN-80 version’s 48 GPIO pins is a big improvement over the RP2040.

However, I’m a bit frustrated that I am yet to see the w/ Flash variation actually for sale. Also, per the design guide https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com/rp2350/hardware-design-with-rp2350.pdf (pg 4) it seems that supplying power to it is more finicky than the RP2040.

Finally, while not exactly the same thing (but related) the Pico 2 uses Micro USB, not USB-C. It just seems like this could be such a cool development, but they missed a few things. Am I off here? Thoughts?

If we add a flash in the microprocessor then isn’t it going to become microcontroller?

  2. jeremycook#0000

Hmm, TBH I’m not entirely clear on the difference between those two terms. I always thought the RP2040 was properly referred to as a microcontroller, but maybe not?

Wow, that’s definitely not cool. Not sure exactly what this means though: “impacts pull-up SWD pads but not QSPI pads.”
