What is the maximum number of nodes one ZigBee endpoint can communicate to?

I am currently digging into ZigBee and the following question came to my mind: What is the maximum number of nodes one ZigBee endpoint can communicate to?

  1. pallavaggarwal#0000

you need to check the modules/SoC specification

  2. pallavaggarwal#0000

Xbee from Digi supports 40 for example

  3. pallavaggarwal#0000

I used Zigbee long back in 2007, not in touch with it now

  4. pallavaggarwal#0000

you can increase no of nodes in the same network via enabling router service

  5. nour_huda#0000

I’ve read that Zigbee can support +60000 nodes per network. but i’m a little bit confused if “node” means something like service or new device.

  6. pallavaggarwal#0000

    node is new device

  7. pallavaggarwal#0000

if you keep reading you will get confused

  8. pallavaggarwal#0000

take a module or device start playing(read: working) with it in real

  9. nour_huda#0000

    True 😅, thanks @pallavaggarwal 🙏 I’ll take your advice.

  10. Umesh Lokhande#0000

_Node_ can be a device that understands Zigbee protocol. In the Zigbee network, we have a _Coordinator, Router, and End device_ configuration. To form a network either STAR or MESH. We must always have at least one ZigBee to be the coordinator. if we take the example of _Digi’s XBee S2C_ then there will be no limit on how many end device/ router nodes can communicate to the central coordinator XBee. But I have seen in real-world projects when the network of devices increases then programming and networking complexity increases which leads to data loss and unstable network.

  11. nour_huda#0000

    Thanks @umeshlokhande for the information

  12. BenCos18#0000

    node is end devices

  13. BenCos18#0000

well it’s any device that does something

  14. BenCos18#0000

  15. BenCos18#0000

    green is links between devices

  16. nour_huda#0000

According to what I read, ZigBee has a 16 Bit short address, So I can connect up to 2^16=65536 different devices (physical device), and each physical device can contain up to 240 “logical” devices (endpoints). 🤔
So technically we can have roughly 15 million “logical” devices on a network.
