for the pros in the group.. is yihua a reliable brand for hot air soldering? i want to solder qfn stm32 chips and smd for small boards around 10×10 cm2 but i don’t want to spend more than 100-150usd but still i want something reliable and safe, i already have an ersa as soldering station
thanks for the reply..i’ll check the link. i read that the plate is a good nice to have for smd but not a must, that’s why i didn’t consider it
Hi, I don’t know about yihua specifically, but I got this device in late 2020: https://amzn.to/4j4lIyv (affiliate link) and it’s still mostly working fine.
That being said, I don’t use it that often and I’ve replaced the nozzle (though I think I maybe cut/melted the cable by accident, not sure). Also, the nozzle doesn’t turn off properly when I put it in the handle, and seems like I saw something online about some grounding concerns with this type of device.
So, IDK, you get what you pay for I guess. That being said, I think the “850D” is pretty common/standard for hobbyist type work.
Also, have you considered using a hot plate instead? I got a 200x200mm unit, which honestly was too big. The one I have now is 100×100, which is a nice size: https://embeddedcomputing.com/technology/open-source/budget-pcb-hotplate-options-large-medium-small
